When You Feel Like You’re Not Enough: Lessons from Moses
At 36, I still wrestle with feeling like I’m not enough. As a wife, a mom, and a project manager, I often battle insecurity. I compare. I question. I overthink.
Maybe you do too?
You’re not alone—Moses did, too.
The Call of Moses: Insecurity Meets the I AM
In Exodus 3, God calls to Moses from a burning bush. Moses responds, “Here I am.” But as soon as God reveals the assignment, Moses begins to shrink back:
“Who am I?”
“I’m not eloquent.”
(Exodus 3–4)
Can you relate? I know I can.
But God doesn’t give Moses a pep talk. He doesn’t tell him to believe in himself or try harder. He gives him a promise:
“I will be with you.” — Exodus 3:12
“I AM WHO I AM.” — Exodus 3:14
God didn’t expect Moses to be enough—because He already was.
It’s Not About Readiness, It’s About Trust
That’s our anchor. Not our qualifications. Not our confidence. But His presence. The same “I AM” who met Moses in the wilderness became flesh and walked among us (John 1:14). Jesus stepped into our inadequacy to do what we never could.
Sister, the pressure isn’t on you—it’s on the One who called you. And He is faithful.
Read that again.
When You Still Feel Insecure
Even still, I fall short in so many ways. I get distracted by expectations, caught in comparison, and overwhelmed by my own limitations. I scroll through curated lives and feel like I’ll never measure up.
But here’s the truth:
We’re not transformed by hustle—we’re transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2).
And what we store up in our hearts? That’s what overflows (Luke 6:45).
So I have to ask: What are you filling your heart with?
The truth of Jesus—or the lies of not enough?
You’re Not Too Inadequate for God to Use
I never imagined I’d be someone who could encourage other women in their walk with Christ. I didn’t feel ready. I still don’t.
But obedience isn’t about being ready—it’s about being willing.
Scripture calls us to build one another up (1 Thessalonians 5:11). Not because we’re qualified, but because Jesus is. He doesn’t call the ready—He equips the willing. And He goes with us (Matthew 28:20).
The great I AM walks with you, too.
Start With a Willing Heart
You don’t need a five-year plan or a perfect résumé.
You just need a willing heart.
God met Moses in the wilderness—and He’ll meet you here too.
Start with these three words:
“Here I am.”

Liezl is a South African-born Aussie, wife to the man of God she once prayed for, and mama to two Jesus-loving littles who keep her on her toes and on her knees. Somewhere between school runs, managing projects, and her household, she’s learning — again and again — who she is in Christ, and finding that grace shows up right in the mess.
Her greatest desire? That her words carry heaven’s breath—that, like the woman with the little jar of oil in 2 Kings 4, God would multiply what she offers in faith and obedience to overflow into the lives of many.
